Artisans in Action

Taking place in and around the rustic Avon Spirit Shipyard in Avondale/Newport Landing, nestled along the shore of the mighty Avon River, these open air markets are an opportunity for visitors to engage with local artists and artisans, who share a glimpse into their creative process.

A collaboration between Avon River Arts and Avon River Heritage, this summer Artisans in Action returns with a series of pop-up markets designed to showcase Nova Scotian artists and artisans, who focus on historical trades, crafts, and art forms done in both traditional and contemporary manners.

Joining us at the market this season is the Full Circle Festival, who will be presenting Sofa Sundays, a series of regular
performances by local singers, songwriters and poets. Starting in June these intimate performances will coinside with the demonstrations and a BBQ fundraiser, hosted by the museum.

Artisans in Action now takes place the third Sunday of the month, June – October, noon until 4pm. The cost to participate is $25 per artisan, per market. Tables, chairs, electricity and refreshments are provided. Please see Artisan in Action Checklist for Participating Artists below for more details.
